Mega Builders officially unveils Winstead Commons

Mega Builders is holding grand opening festivities Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Winstead Commons, a new urban-style community in northwest Greensboro that has first-floor retail shops and upper-floor condominiums.

Businesses already operating are Port City Java, Arthur's Fine Shoes, Wild Birds Unlimited, Twinkie Pinkie salon, MOD--Materials of Design and Jack Cecil. Food and drinks will be available, and jazz musician Lisa Danes will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Grand opening events will be held during business hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The condominiums also will be open for tours. The two- or three-bedroom homes start from the $140,000s and include features such as granite countertops, stainless appliances, tile baths, as well as secured outside entry access and intercom access from the first floor.

Coldwell Banker plans homebuying seminar

Coldwell Banker Triad Realtors of High Point will host a free homebuying seminar from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. 

Fred McFalls of Coldwell Banker Mortgage will discuss the closing side of the transaction, including who pays what and the biggest expenses involved.

Lisa Duke, an EcoBroker and New Home Specialist, will cover topics including surprise repairs, standard expenses you may not think of, and other costs involved with the real estate transaction.

The event will be held at the Coldwell Banker office at 2212 Eastchester Drive. Food will be served.

Allen Tate counsel addresses title searches

D. Kevin Joyce, vice-president and state legal counsel for Master Title Agency and Commonwealth Land Title Agency, an Allen Tate company, discussed title searches as a featured speaker at the North Carolina Bar Foundation 2008 Real Property Practice Skills Session on Nov. 7 at the N.C. Bar Association Center in Cary.

His presentation, “Title Searching 101 – Real Estate Title Search and Examination in North Carolina,” addressed the basics of searching a real estate title in North Carolina, including online resources, grantor/grantee index issues, and judgment docket issues.

Joyce is vice president and state counsel for Master Title and Commonwealth Land Title Agency, which has offices in Charlotte, the Triad and Triangle.

 

ReStore co-sponsors Holiday Angel House

Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, along with the American Red Cross, Experiment in Self Reliance and a local school, have combined forces to sponsor the Holiday Angel House project.

Residents can donate a gift certificate, in the shape of a roofing shingle, to a family. Each shingle purchase will be matched dollar by the Habitat ReStore in Winston-Salem.

Shingles from $5 to $100 (doubled in value by the ReStore) can be purchased through Dec. 15.  Certificates will then be awarded to the families to purchase items they need before the holidays.

The ReStore, located at 341 Witt St., down the street from Arby’s at Stratford and Knollwood, is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
