Stacy Hiers, a Realtor with Re/Max Realty Consultants in Greensboro, has been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation by the Council of Residential Specialists, the largest not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.
Realtors who receive the CRS designation have completed advanced courses and have demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate. Fewer than 38,000 realtors nationwide have earned the credential.
The training is designed to foster a stricter code of ethics, as well as provide access to the latest technology.

Melvin L. “Skip” Alston of Alston Realty Group Inc. in Greensboro has been awarded the 2008 Ben Ball Community Service Award by the N.C. Association of Realtors. Alston, a member of the state group and the Greensboro Regional Realtors Association for over 15 years, has served a variety of civic and philanthropic organizations throughout Greensboro and the state, currently as chairman of the N.C. Real Estate Commission. He also has served as president of the N.C. Association of Black County Officials, chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners and president of the N.C. NAACP State Conference. Alston is also recognized as the co-founder and chairman of the Sit-In Movement Inc., a committee formed to purchase and renovate the Woolworth Building in downtown Greensboro. Additionally, Alston has received numerous appointments, including an appointment in 1993 to the N.C. Housing Partnership Commission as well as an appointment by the governor to the 1996 Task Force for Church Burnings. Alston has also donated a great deal of time to political campaigns, including the coordination of rides to polling precincts for community members as well as actively participating in political forums.
Kelly Marks of Re/Max of Greensboro has received the Regional Service Award from the N.C. Association of Realtors. The award recognizes one Realtor in each of the state’s nine regions who has contributed to and continues to serve his or her local, state and national associations.
For 25 years, Marks has been an active member on all levels of the association. On the local level, Marks has served on multiple committees and, in 2003, led the Greensboro Regional Realtors Association as president. This year, Marks is serving on seven committees, including service as the assistant treasurer of the board of directors and executive committee, director of the Triad MLS Committee and vice chairman of the association audit/budget and finance committee. In 2007, Marks received the Association Member 2007 Realtor of the Year Award. He has served the N.C. Association of Realtors as a director for three terms and is now serving his fourth. Marks is a member of the Service Corp. and an at-large RPAC board member.Nationally, Marks has been an active participant in both the Mid-Year and National Association of Realtors Conference and Expo since 2003.
